COLUMBUS, Ohio, November 1, 2024 – Card Boss, the industry’s first all-AI card grading company, is now the first and only card grading company to hold a patent for its innovative artificial intelligence technology. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) awarded Card Boss patent No. US 12,106,334 B2 for “artificial intelligence-based system and method for grading collectible trading cards,” on Oct. 1, 2024. Card grading helps collectors assess the quality of a trading card. Its popularity continues to surge with more than 17 million cards graded in 2023, according to third-party tracker GemRate.

The patent abstract establishes a “system and method for digitally grading collectible trading cards on a predefined standard scale. The collectible trading cards are graded using images … the quantitative data can then be processed using a pre-trained machine learning model to obtain a grade for the collectible trading card.”
